What You Should Know about Home Office Lighting/Ergonomic Lighting for Your Computer
Good office lighting is important for computer work. Bad lighting can strain your eyes and cause headaches. It can also encourage poor posture as you lean close to your work or the computer monitor.
This can contribute to repetitive stress injuries RSI.
Suggestions for Good Office Lighting
Don't put lights anywhere that will produce glare on your monitor. Also watch out for glare on reflective surfaces such as class computer desks and the like. Glare contributes to eye strain.
Consider adjustable sources of lighting near work areas; during different periods of the day, you may require more or less light to be comfortable at the computer.
Make sure your monitor screen is well lit, but also consider lighting the wall/space behind your computer to avoid pockets of darkness that contrast with the brightness of the monitor.
Consider mixing colors in your lighting scheme (i.e. incandescent and halogen) to offer more for
variety for your eyes. A pleasing effect will increase productivity and keep your eyes from tiring as quickly.
Consider clamp-on lamps and other adjustable lighting so you can fine-tune the amount and proximity of lighting on your monitor/work area.
