The Swopper, a Good Ergonomic Chair or Not?
Aside from your cup of coffee, your best companion in the office could be the Swopper
chair. Not a lot is written about this high utility chair, but they are becoming
increasingly popular. The Swopper design has been proven to reduce aches associated with sedentary jobs. The
Swopper allows for sitting in 3 dimensions and provides an active sitting environment rather than our current static environment. In contrast to a traditional chair, it facilitates human movement whilst seated.
A Swopper chair stabilizes the sitting environment by lowering lateral stiffness. This extra component of balance enables our postural muscles to be strengthened as we remain in a sitting position. By keeping the postural muscles in action, they are strengthened enough to withstand the daily demands exerted on them. The overall result is
that we are able to adjust the side movement for our personal needs.
The spring tension can also be adjusted to provide an array of bouncing sensations and vertical movement. The bouncing motion of the
Swopper chair can help in rejuvenating the intervertebral disks and maintaining them as we grow
older. It also permits us to release energy and reduces stress that may be developed from working. This type of chair strengthens core muscles of the back and abdomen, improves posture, stabilizes the spine, enhances balance, improves circulation to the lower legs, improves nourishment to the intervertebral disks, enhances lymphatic flow and relieves back pain.
A new thinking is emerging about how we sit. As we become more and more aware of the importance of active sitting, our conceptions about chairs will also change. Previously, we only sat to relieve our muscles of stress from walking or standing. But today that perception is changing. It is now known that, sitting itself may produce more stress and fatigue for our body than walking or standing. New studies point to the fact that chairs with high backs and static leg area can cause back aches, neck ache and spinal disorder. It is for these reasons that the
Swopper chair is being considered as an alternative to these poorly designed chairs. Swopper chairs allow easy movement and flexing of muscles.
CONCLUSION
Using a chair that promotes active sitting is a great step in our quest for the
relief of muscle pain. If you intend to purchase office furniture, please choose a chair that encourages movement. Choose a
Swopper chair and you will soon be on your way towards a backache-free life.
